Course Instructor: Laura Buss, Assistive Technology Specialist

Laura Buss leads the Child Champions Academy with extensive experience and expertise in Special Education. With 13 years in the field, she has held various roles, including Special Education Teacher, Program Specialist, Assistant Director, and Director of Special Education. Her background equips her with a comprehensive understanding of the unique challenges faced by students with disabilities.

In addition to her hands-on experience, Laura has dedicated 10 years to delivering professional development training across all areas of special education. She understands how to develop presentations and materials that focus on the primary tenets of adult learning. Her classes focus on delivering information that is relevant to the professional experiences of her students, encouraging active participation through discussion and collaboration, providing clear learning objects, utilizing experiential learning and game-based activities, and allowing for self-directed learning by giving class participants control over their learning pace and choices. Her primary goal is to tailor instruction to the needs of self-motivated learners with valuable real-world knowledge to draw upon. She has an in depth understanding of all special education disabilities and is credentialed to work with students with mild/moderate and moderate/severe disabilities. Additionally, she holds an Autism Authorization, an English Learner Authorization, and is certified to work with preschool-aged children.

Laura is also certified as an Assistive Technology Specialist and is actively pursuing the RESNA Assistive Technology Professional certification. Her skills include administering assistive technology assessments and developing tailored recommendations to provide targeted assistive technology services, ensuring that each student's diverse learning needs are met effectively.

Quality Staff

Child Champions conducts personal interviews with each candidate and keeps copies of all required credentials, such as licenses, child abuse clearances, criminal record clearances, professional liability insurance, and references. This documentation can be made available upon request. Additionally, a range of candidates may be presented for interviews, allowing for the selection of the preferred candidate.
